The weather was not promising as we arrived at Fingle Bridge in showers of hail stones. Luckily things improved as nine members from Devon plus a visitor from Hampshire made our way down the Teign Valley from Fingle Bridge to Step’s Bridge.
The woodland was coming to life for the Spring and we saw wild Garlic growing and Wood anemones starting to bloom.
The highlight of the flowers were the wild daffodils in Dunsford nature reserve. The upper meadow was still full of blooms despite the earlier than usual flowering. We had our picnic lunch in the nature reserve before arriving at Step’s Bridge.
We had cars placed there to take us back to Fingle Bridge where we sat outside the inn for coffee and cakes. As ever the Apple Cake and Clotted Cream was a popular choice, although other options were explored too.
One dedicated member stayed at Step’s Bridge to explore Heltor, the most easterly granite outcrop on Dartmoor. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.
Many thanks to Alan for arranging and leading the walk.
