Solent – Horsebridge and Agincourt Fields

Despite the risk of showers, 9 members set out on the walk which remained dry all day. We crossed the River Test and its tributary's several times on the walk but failed to spot any Trout in the clear but deep and fast flowing currents. Although the recent heavy rain meant their was some mud on the walk, overall it remained firm underfoot and good for walking. This January walk of 7 miles was a perfect length but any longer might have brought on aching legs as the spate of bad weather meant that many recent walks had been cancelled and the feasting of Christmas had led to a certain amount of over indulgence! The walk was a good mixture of roads tracks and paths without any tough hill climbs. We walked through Agincourt Fields where Henry V encamped before departing for France. The end of the walk went past the old Horsebridge railway station which though now private, still had its platforms and signalling. Most of us then retired to the hospitable John O'Gaunt pub for an enjoyable pint.
