S. Mids – Deddington delighted.

Mark is renowned for leading great walks and for finding unique places within the South Midlands area.  Last Sundays walk didn’t disappoint in either respect, the sun shone, fields of golden corn swayed in the gentle breeze as we passed historic country houses and churches, whilst enjoying far reaching views across Oxfordshire.

A coffee stop in the little known hamlet of Nether Worton allowed walkers to visit the candle lit church and admire the adjacent country house.  Later a short steep road took the group into the village of Hempton where some were tempted by local produce and fresh eggs.  At lunch we enjoyed a panoramic view, a visit from a friendly jack russell and some welcome shade.

Barford St John, another village with impressive country houses and an RAF listening station with huge dragonfly like antennas provided additional interest on the return route to Deddington.

Back at the start, some returned home whilst others enjoyed a pint/coke/tea at The Deddington Arms.  Thank you  Mark for a great walk on a rare wonderful summer day.
