Rambling Wells & Dinder, Somerset on 22nd March 2026

Fourteen members went for a great walk around Wells, enjoying sunshine as we climbed up to King’s Castle Woods. The paths along the East Mendip Way were good and the mud wasn’t too bad at all. At one point, we had to conceal our laughter when our leader took a tumble after battling with a gate stuck in a hedge, but he was fine and soon we were heading down into Croscombe for our picnic lunch.

After lunch, we followed the River Sheppey back towards Wells, passing through the pretty village of Dinder. We even met a couple of friendly, grey-dappled horses who got a bit too curious for comfort! Then we walked through Dulcote, took the railway path, wandered through Park Wood where the spring flowers looked fantastic, and finally crossed the Bishop’s Park Fields to finish off with a drink at The Crown Inn in Market Place, Wells.

We covered seven miles and had a brilliant time.

Big thanks to Chris for planning and leading the walk, and to everyone who came along, including those who travelled all the way from places as far afield as Abbotsbury, Dorset and Cirencester, Gloucestershire and lots of places in between! And, Stephen/Steven being the most popular name on our walk at 5/14 (36%), we gave them their own group photograph!
