Lostwithiel/Fowey Valley Walk

Five intrepid walkers braved the inclement weather to walk from Lostwithiel Railway Station to the 15th-century Respryn Bridge, walking up the west side of the valley and returning down the east side of the valley.

The walk was mostly on tarmac roads, thus avoiding the mud. On the outward leg, we passed through a Duchy of Cornwall holiday accommodation development. Looking east, we could see that the River Fowey had burst its banks and had partially flooded the fields adjacent to the river.

The lunch stop was at Respryn Bridge, under the partial shelter of a tree, where the walkers enjoyed a variety of comestibles, including sandwiches and hot soup.

Unfortunately, during the second section of the walk, from Respryn Bridge to Duchy Nurseries, the visibility was very poor—so much so that Restormel Castle remained unseen.

The café at Duchy Nurseries provided a respite from the rain, as well as hot drinks and excellent cakes.

The final section of the walk, returning to Lostwithiel Railway Station, was completed without incident. Despite the rain, the walkers remained cheerful throughout the walk.
