Hi Gang,
With our Berks Mid Thames Corrdinators away, enjoying South Africa - our faithful Andrew guided us through the Oxfordshire countryside around Hailey and "The King William IV Pub" - not that we got into it!!!
Well having a GOC walk between three major storms, it wasn't going to be easy for poor Andrew.
I - having gone down earlier with "Bells Pausy" - arrived at GWR Goring Railway Station to meet our regular "Pop Up Walker" Stev F - all the way from Essex. As expected - no trains - but Stev managed to get there on the first to get though - so we made it - just in time for 10.30am start.
Andrew had his own problems, clearly the pub had no power - wishfully - might get a cold lunch later, maybe a cold beer.
Seven of us set out, descending through amazing atmospheric scenes, climbing over, under or around several fallen trees. Reaching a "Well known actors home" - Rowan Atkinson - Mr Bean - we thought we might be invited in - no sign of him.
Onwards Andrew took us!!! Till we descended into "Grimms Ditch" and back to the pub - still closed still no food or drink.
Jeremy was desperate for a cup of tea, so the few "stragglers" settled down to choci bars, grapes and cherry's whilst the storm raged around us outside the van.
Andrew deserves a GOC Medal for organising what will be a "Memorable GOC Event"
Thanks again to all, Bill
