GOC LONDON POST-XMAS SOCIAL MEAL – SATURDAY 18 JANUARY

Although several other GOC groups traditionally hold annual social meals around Christmas, GOC London has not done this for many years, if at all. This was about to change in early 2025!

Fourteen of us battled through the busy surrounds of Oxford Street, to reach the relative sanctuary of Saint Christopher's Place and its branch of Côte Brasserie, which was our venue. It turned out to be well chosen; the food was good and the staff could not have been more helpful. While people were settling down and late orders were being taken, they bought a constant stream of appetizers we hadn't expected, including olives, crudités and spicy dips. For the main meal Keith Wood had negotiated an excellent deal, consisting of three courses and a glass of bubbly. The meal ended up lasting well over 3 hours, although it didn't seem like that because of the animated chat among the group and the friendly and attentive service we were given by the Côte staff.

There were a number of challenges in setting up this event: negotiating with Côte Brasserie, whose menus changed in January, so that we could not give as much notice as we might have liked, and getting people to use the GOC ticketing system to choose their meal options. I would like to personally thank Keith Wood for making a huge effort to make this event happen, and also Martin Gilbraith regarding website issues. I think we learned a lot of lessons for future years.

I hope that an event like this will become a fixture every year from now on. Again thanks to Keith for kicking it all off!
