This very pleasant, mainly level 7.5 mile walk started from Calne in north Wiltshire. Setting off from near the town quay of the former (under restoration) Wilts & Berks canal, the route followed field paths and tracks onto the Bowood estate.
A visual diversion was provided by competitors in a triathlon sharing part of the way. Our leader claimed this was purely coincidental, but none the less, the views were appreciated.
Crossing the parkland to the south of Bowood house, a lunch stop beside the golf course and skirting the village of Derry Hill, our route dropped down to the former Chippenham - Calne railway line. Now converted into a joint use footpath and cycleway, this proved a pleasant tree lined path back to the start.
It was really nice to meet another two newcomers on the walk who we hope to see again. As usual, my thanks to everyone who came along. Thanks also to our intrepid leader.
