Denbigh Circular Walk

This was my first walk as the new group coordinator and leader. There were 4 of us in total and one dog.

This was a circular walk around the Denbigh area, which was just over 5 miles in total. Starting from the main car park, we headed up a steep climb up towards Denbigh Castle. Today we had the privilege of the Chairman, Jim, to join us on the walk.

As it was a Denbigh Open Doors weekend, we had the chance to walk along Denbigh town walls, which was an added bonus with lovely views along the way until we reached Goblin Tower. Most of the guys didn't want to climb down to the bottom of the well, as they would have only had to climb back up. We then headed out the back entrance of the walls to walk across the front of Denbigh Castle to carry onto the walk.

The route then headed to the Ystrad Valley and walking through Cai Dai Wilderness Camp site along the river and then into the woodlands.

We stopped for a coffee break by a lovely footbridge and close to the remains of Dr Samuel Johnson's cottage. He was an essayist, poet, biographer and lexicographer and is one of the most quoted English writers after Shakespeare.

So far we were lucky the rain had held off, and we were now about half way round of the walk.  We now carried on through the woods, where there was a fairly steep climb to the top of the hill, with lovely views along the way back to Denbigh.

We then ended up in the Hand Inn for a well-earned drink just as the heavy rain started.
