On a grey and overcast morning ten of us gathered at Dawlish Country Park for a circular walk taking in the harbour at Cockwood. The rain held off as we set out for a short stretch of walking in the Country Park before moving on to some local lanes and pathways through fields and woodlands.
Emerging beside Cockwood marshes we moved on to our lunch stop overlooking the harbour and only a few feet away from the GWR mainline. Eating lunch as trains thundered past just a few feet away was an interesting experience!
Following the estuary of the Exe towards Dawlish Warren we then headed inland and back towards our start point. As heavy rain moved in some of the group took a shorter route back to the car park whilst other members voted for exploring some further areas in the Country Park. They arrived back at the car park a little later and a lot wetter!
The wet weather did not stop us enjoying a refreshment pit stop at a local café where (thankfully) we managed to find seats out of the rain!
