The East Kent group had a wonderful winter walk the day after the winter solstice. The weather was kind though there was a sharp breeze when we were outside wooded areas. We saw some roses, winter irises, first signs of bulbs and some buds forming on trees. So at least it feels like spring is trying to show.
We did about 9 miles though depending on whose app we went, by the distance varied. Lunch was had by the chapel of Otterden Place, which sadly is in a poor condition. Mr Wheler passsed away in 2004 with no children and his two siblings also had no offspring either.
We travelled through a lot of lovely varied landscape, such as orchards, dry valleys, pretty woods and quiet country roads. Passing through the villages of Eastling and Doddington and looking inside the churches in Newnham and Doddington.
At the end of the walk, we stopped for a sunday roast and/or a drink in the wonderfully festive George Inn in Newnham. A big thank you to the pub staff for the excellent christmas decorations. They have done a wonderful job.
A Merry Christmas to all GOC members and I hope to see a lot of you next year.
