Circular walk in Upper Basildon Saturday: 7 June 2025

A small group of six set out for a circular walk through the picturesque countryside of West Berkshire starting in the village of Upper Basildon. We met at the car park of The Red Lion, now closed but looking for a new owner.
The weather forecast was not encouraging but we escaped with just a few light rain showers. Our 7 mile walk took us through woods and valleys  as well as a couple of hills and fairly long ascents. I know some of our members were a wee bit concerned about the uphill climbs but following a useful tip from one of our members about walking in a zigzag fashion on steep hills their fears were dispelled and they tackled the hills with renewed confidence. The small size of our group provided us with an excellent opportunity to chat more in depth amongst ourselves than is normally possible when walking in larger groups and we were able to share laughs and stories along the way.

After our walk we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Greyhound pub in Tidmarsh. After lunch the heavens opened and we all made a mad dash to our cars, brollies at the ready!
