Brecon Beacons Classic

This was a fairly strenuous, but very rewarding 9 mile walk to the highest ground in the Brecon Beacons.  After a stiff climb from the Neuadd Reservoir up to the ridges, the nine of us and Bentley walked along the ridge taking in magnificent 360 degree views, as far as the eye could see, to the summits of both Corn Du and Pen y Fan, the highest peaks in Southern Britain.  After a hot day the day before, we were relieved to walk in cooler conditions and it was quite breezy on the tops.  After walking down from Pen y Fan,  we climbed the steep ascent to Cribyn, completing three magnificent peaks, before continuing down into the rocky saddle of Bwlch ar y Fan between the peaks, to follow the ancient Roman track through the beautiful Taf Fechan valley back down to the start.  A truly fabulous walk in great company, and the sort of day that made you feel lucky to be Welsh and glad to be alive.

Alan.
