Bradford on Avon to Limpley Stoke 5/4/26

A cool breeze and warm sun greeted our intrepid band of adventurers as they explored the river Avon valley to the west of Bradford on Avon.

Following the canal towpath as far as the sewage works where the field path was taken to gain access to Becky Addy Wood with its fresh growth of wild garlic and embryonic bluebells. Dropping downhill to Avoncliff, the riverside path was walked to Freshford where packed lunches were consumed on the railway platform within a garden maintained by a local volunteer group. Suitably sustained and rested, the walk continued along the riverside to Limply Stoke where the Avon was crossed and the canal towpath was regained. The towpath here between the two aqueducts is arguably the prettiest section of an overall very scenic canal. Retreating back towards Bradford, the final leg was made through the country park to the tithe barn complex where tea and cakes were to be had.

Overall, a pleasant 8 mile walk in brilliant company, fine weather and good countryside.

My thanks to all those who came along, I enjoyed your company.
