The weather was warm with a hazy sky as fifteen of us set off across the water meadows from Marlow heading towards Hurley, a pretty little village, where I had planned we would have a break exploring the village and spending a while in the garden of a local pub. The plan was then to return to Marlow. However unfortunately the wooden bridge that would have allowed us to cross the Thames to Hurley had been closed since we recced the walk just six weeks previously. We considered ignoring advice from the local lock keeper not to cross but reluctantly concluded we would have to abandon Hurley and return to Marlow by the Thames footpath. We then had extra time on our hands and therefore we agreed to continue our walk back to Marlow and thence rejoined the Thames footpath eastwards for an unexpected but enjoyable stroll along the river passing a number of interesting riverside properties including a house which one passer by described as the cardboard house (see the castellated photo in the picture gallery).
The walk concluded with a very convivial meal at the George and Dragon in the centre of Marlow.
Thanks to all those who came on the walk and also for your understanding about the unexpected change of plan!
Vas and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Happy walking
Simon
