On a sunny Sunday morning a group of walkers from the Western Midlands Group were joined by a couple of visitors from the South Mids Group for a 7 mile wander around the Warwickshire countryside. The advertised 9.5 miles had been shortened to just over 7 miles due to several paths being completely overgrown. A request to the County Council the previous month hadn’t resulted in any action
Having successfully crossed the busy A46 the group headed across fields on a clear farm track to Wixford, where having had coffee the group posed for a photo by a rare gorse and thatch horse house, used by the visiting preacher to stable his horse in years gone by. Slightly further on the group appears to have ended up behind bars! They escaped to continue the walk, no doubt silver tongued “Jones the Law” had a hand in their release.
A clearing in the woods near the top of Oversley Hill, provided distant views for the lunch stop amongst the trees. The return route back to Alcester involved crossing the old Stratford road bridge under which the rivers Alne and Arrow join. Here Julian photographed a wedding group, one of the entries in the annual village scarecrow competition.
All 15 walkers and Bruno a very well behaved dog, made it back to the start safely. Some headed home whilst other visited a tea shop for tea and gorgeous cakes in the sunshine.
