A walk down the Kennet and Avon Canal from Newbury to Kintbury : 14 May 2026

This was BMT's first linear walk for some months. Fortunately the weather was pretty good, the previous day having been particularly unpleasant - cold and strong winds. Unfortunately I was unable to lead the walk so Vas took my place and this report is based primarily on his impressions and photos provided by John Reeks.

The group set off from Newbury station and headed across to the Kennet and Avon Canal passing some rather attractive buildings beside the canal on the way. This was a fairly straight forward walk down the canal. The group were fortunate to have the canal path mostly to themselves so plenty of time to stop, chat and take in the views -  some wide ranging others more narrowly focused on the footpath and it surrounding fields and vegetation vibrant in the midday sun. The groups ultimate destination was the Dundas Arms at Kintbury, an attractive canal side pub which provided the walkers with  good hearty meals and a chance to catch up and chat amongst each other.
