An early start for the nine members from North, Mid & South Devon and one from Somerset who attended the Theatre Royal Plymouth Tour.
The tour started by the Messenger statue which still divides opinion. It was explained to us that the business of theatre is to tell stories and that all theatre goers have to either walk under or around Messenger to enter the theatre - to see and hear the story.
Three staff members conducted the tour each with their own areas of expertise - front of house, lighting and backstage technical crew. They described and demonstrated their roles and in doing this we visited many parts of the Theatre including the vast back stage area, the stage, the rigging high above the stage and the smaller Drum Theatre. We saw light displays, smoke effects and how the hanging scenery moves.
An interesting tour to attend with engaging, knowledgeable staff. A great resource for Devon to have.
If you haven't been on the tour I can't recommend it enough and it goes without saying support your local Theatre!
