What an absolutely magnificent day! After the wonderful time I had on my last walk with the Glasgow Gay Ramblers, I couldn't wait to get back out into the fresh air with the Gay Outdoor Club. Today’s journey took us on the Gorebridge Castles Circular, and it was every bit as magical as I had hoped.
The Journey
We set off from Gorebridge station for a 10-mile adventure through some of the most beautiful hidden corners of Midlothian. The route was a perfect blend of everything I love about walking: peaceful woodland paths, farm tracks, and atmospheric country lanes.
The highlight for many of us was the history along the way. Seeing the ruins of Catcune, Borthwick, and Crichton Castles rising out of the landscape felt like stepping back in time. We even passed the grand Vogie House, which added a real touch of baronial elegance to our afternoon.
The Community Spirit
As much as I loved the scenery and the castles, the best part of the day was, without a doubt, the people. I truly love each and every member of the Gay Outdoor Club who joined us today. The sense of belonging and the genuine kindness shared among this group is something very special. From the laughs we shared while navigating the muddy tracks to the supportive conversations along the Tyne River, my heart felt completely full.
A Massive Thank You!
A very special and heartfelt thanks must go to David Archer for arranging this walk. David, your hard work in planning such a thoughtful and interesting route did not go unnoticed. You made the day run so smoothly, allowing us all to just relax, enjoy the views, and focus on the great company. We are all so grateful for your time and effort!
Capturing the Memories
I’ve uploaded some photos from our journey below so everyone can see the stunning vistas and the happy faces that made today so memorable.
I’m already counting down the days until our next outing. If you haven't joined us yet, please do—you won't just find a walking group; you’ll find a family!
