Something very short and semi-sweet for January!
Langston Hughes was a black american , originator of jazz poetry and the Harlem Renaissance, writing in the post-WW1 `Charlston era`. This poem of 1925 introduces Suzette Mayer`s gay novel of 2022, The Sleeping Car Porter - as being read this month by Birmingham`s LGBTQI+ Book Club, Bards & Books.
Poem (for F.S.)
I loved my friend
He went away from me.
There`s nothing more to say
The poem ends,
Soft as it began -
I loved my friend.
