The Annual Outdoor Gathering of 1984 (then known as the National Weekend Away) became eventful for not just the club’s 10th anniversary, but for the choice of venue. The setting of Capel Curig had been chosen by the beginning of the year, but objections from community council prevented the use of the village hall. This became part of the month’s news with The Daily Mirror (Northern Edition) leading the articles in early March. Thankfully by the April, a vicar from nearby Betws-y-Coed saved the day by offering of their church hall. As reported in May’s edition of North Wales Weekly News, the event went without any further controversy.
