Book of the Month coming soon…

Did you know GOC once had its own book club?

Poem of The Month has been done and dusted. So, new for 2026 we will now be highlighting literature featuring our community. Catch up with classics from the early 20th century, the latest `queer fiction` such as Oisin McKenna`s Evening & Weekends.  Or maybe a taste of Victorian Gothic? You decide – is it a must read or must avoid? Bran Stoker's close friendship with Oscar Wilde, saw Dracula published to coincide with Wilde's prison release in May 1897 – and who hasn't heard of Interview with a Vampire

There's also a multitude of new writers from many countries adding to our LGBTQI+ experiences. Help us by adding to our monthly suggestions list – or submit paragraph or so with your views? Three Western Mids members are in Bards & Book, the Birmingham LGBT readers group, and you may know a certain member in Surrey group, author of The Undatable Gay?

Create your own ZOOM for a discussion online – a one off or regular slot. There's also various Literary Festivals coming up (Oxford in March), so find out who else might be going. We've also just seen a GOC walk in Oxford itself following the trail of Jude the Obscure – and a while back, Agatha Christie.

If you are a page-turner, Kindle wonder or just love relaxing with a good  audio tape, you`l be keen to see what you really SHOULD be reading. Get in touch via History & Culture group or contact David [email protected]
