Farley and Pitton (October 2018)

On a glorious sunny Autumn morning, 9 walkers led by Gary & Alan set off from Farley on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border. Walking at a leisurely pace through open fields before entering Beechy Down Copse then on to the site of the remains of Clarendon Palace. The medieval ruins were once a royal palace during the Middle Ages but all that is visible now above ground level is one end wall of the great Hall. Taking our lunch break there, we were joined by a group of inquisitive resident Llamas.

Kings Worthy - Wonston. Sept. 16th.

A group of 14, including some new faces, plus 3 canine walkers gathered on the outskirts of Kings Worthy for a 9 mile circular walk led by Linda.

Heading north east along a disused railway line, we passed some modern buildings of the Worthy Down Military Camp before crossing open rolling countryside arriving at the hamlet of Wonston. The pace was very leisurely, allowing time for picking lovely sweet blackberries.

Lunch break was taken at The Wonston Arms, a community village pub saved from closure and now owned & run by landlord Matt who gave us a warm welcome....

Upham Circular (August 2018)

11 members from a wide area, including one new one, gathered outside St. Mary’s Church, Upham for a 9 mile figure of eight walk led by Richard.

Heading NW out of the village before returning close to the start point and then heading away crossing rolling countryside and gallops at Stephen’s Castle Down and Dean Farm.

After passing through the hamlet of Dean, we crossed the B3035 and descended on the Hampshire Bowman pub, Dundridge where most walkers enjoyed a hearty Sunday roast and sampled a selection of their wide range of beer and ciders....

July 2018: Shanklin, Isle Of Wight

A group of Solent members from the mainland joined Phil & other islanders for a 9 mile circular walk starting at Shanklin Railway Station.

On leaving the station, we followed the disused railway line heading inland to Manor Farm on Wroxall Down at 900 ft. with great views of the surrounding countryside before passing radio masts & descending Nansen Hill.

An early afternoon cream tea was taken at Smugglers Haven Tearooms on St. Boniface Down before joining the coastal path via the Devils Chimney, a narrow rock cleft between Bonchurch & Luccombe....
