Event Reports from Solent Group

4 Feb 2018 | Solent Group

On Sunday 21st January, 2018, nine handsone young chaps set out in the rain and cold to face eight miles of puddles and bog around the New Forest village of Brockenhurst.

Taking their chances with the walk leader whose ideas about the route changed with the weather, they bravely mustered on. After taking shelter under a clump of trees for a quick lunch break they navigated the overflowing river Lym with varying degrees of success!

Buckler's Hard

19 Feb 2017 | Solent Group

Eight walkers from Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex set off from the Dibden Inclosure for this ten mile round trip to the historic village of Buckler's Hard across the forest, through Beaulieu, and along the River Beaulieu, braving mud, donkeys and ponies along the way.

10 Jul 2016 | Berkshire & Mid Thames, Devon, Hertfordshire, London, Milton Keynes & Buckinghamshire, Oxford, Solent, South Midlands, South Wales, Surrey, Sussex, Adventure Out Groups

The group was mixed with some wearing shorts and some less hardy wearing trousers. The first part of the walk had minor bits of mud and plenty of shade as we walked through Godshill woods towards Hale. Then once we got to open countryside we realised why the walk leader was wearing long trousers some of the paths were so overgrown it looked like we were P....

This was a GOC first--a women only walking weekend.

Women are under represented in the Club so to try and encourage more women to get involved in their local groups, the trustees had approved a limited number of women only events, to try and address this issue.

The aim is to get a nucleus of women walking with all the groups, which can only benefit everyone involved with the Club.

I limited the number to 30 for the whole event. This was mainly because finding a venue that could cater for this amount of people for the planned Saturday evening meal, was difficult....
