This is a varied walk on the Kent-Sussex border. It can be very muddy but has many compensations - orchards, wildfowl, peaceful valleys and the site of the last of the operating iron furnaces.

Lamberhurst is an ancient village. A church has stood in the village for over a thousand years (apparently, the yew tree in its grounds is dated at over 1500 years!).  The village was home to many industries in its past, most notably it was once home to a clothmaking industry, including a fulling mill. The Chequers Inn is one of the oldest 15th Century traditional village inns, established in 1414.

Owl House is a Grade II listed home dating back to the 16th century, set within historic gardens and surrounded by countryside. Previously forming part of a larger country estate, The Owl House takes its name from the ‘Owlers’ who took up the smuggling of wool from the Kent/Sussex coast to France in the late 1600s, when trade was outlawed to protect the textile industry. They communicated from their hideouts at night by calling to each other like owls.
