Ride to the Sun 2026 is your chance to experience one of the UKโs most magical cycling adventuresโ100 miles through the shortest night, crossing borders and chasing the solstice sunrise.
Set off from Carlisle on Saturday evening, and ride 100 miles through quiet country roads to Cramond Beach in Edinburgh, arriving just in time for the 04:26 sunrise. This free, unsupported ride blends camaraderie, history, and spectacleโbagpipes at the Devilโs Beef Tub, the CycloRaveโข in Tweedsmuir, and a celebratory beer at the finish. Ride to the Sun isnโt just a ride - itโs a solstice tradition!
The terrain is mostly flat / gentle until Moffat, where we then have a 6-mile climb to the Devil's Beef Tub, after which it is mostly downhill or undulating.

Note that this is not a supported ride and you should be self-sufficient and equipped to deal with any minor breakdowns. The leader will have a van available at the end of the ride to deal with any more serious mechanical failures en route.
Make sure to bring spare lights (or a battery pack / spare batteries) as over half of the ride will be in darkness.
It's not a closed road event, but traffic will be relatively quiet during the night, even on the A-road sections and with around 1000 participants, there will be cyclists' tail lights in eyeshot for most of the ride.
