On the Pilgrim Trail from Reading Abbey to Theale

Event Details

Who knew that there is a branch of the Camino to Santiago da Compostella that starts at Reading Abbey?

The Abbey was once an important pilgrim site as it had the hand of St James. Santiago of course had his whole body (go figure). It is now possible to follow a newly created waymarked route all the way from Reading Abbey to Southampton as part of the Camino Inglès. Reading Museum has stock of the Camino Book and you can obtain stamps at places along the way, beginning with Carluccio's in Reading and including the Cunning Man in Burghfield which will be our lunch spot. We will subsequently diverge from the trail to reach Theale from whence we will take the train back to Reading.

Expect easy walking on flat ground following the Kennet & Avon Canal for most of our route. The walk itself should take less than 2.5 hours, and is around 6.5 miles.
