This circular walk starts in Llanon and heads east inland along a wooded lane into the foot hills of the Cambrian Mountains. We cross a bridge to take a northerly route through the green foothills and eventually circle back west towards the coast and Llanrhystud via Castell Bach and Castell Mawr (two Iron Age hillforts facing each other, and local legend suggests that there was once a terrible battle between them and the gully dividing them is know as Pantglas (Pantgalanas) the 'dell of slaughter'. However there was once a medieval castle overlooking the village to the northeast known as Caer Penrhos. The castle was thought to have been built by Cadwaladr ap Gruffudd between 1147 – 1149. There was much turbulence at the time and records show much bloodshed which might be associated with the legend.).
Once in Llanrhystud we head along the shingle Wales Coast path to Llanon and pass the church linked the St David's Mother, after a short walk back to the start, we can finish with a coffee or a beer at the local pub.
