Hawkstone, just south of Whitchurch, has one of the best collections of 18th century follies in the country including a grotto (on top of a hill) a monumental column, a tower a Gingerbread Hall and the Ravens’ Shelf all waiting to be discovered whilst strolling through a gorgeous landscape.
Rescued from dereliction in the 1990s, the follies are open during the summer but closed to the general public on Thursdays so we should have the place to ourselves. Although much of the walk is through wooded areas bring sun protection for where it isn’t.
Entry to the park is normally £11.50 but for our group booking it will be a very tempting £9 per person payable at the entrance
If visiting all the follies this includes a monument with 150 steps. You don’t have to climb it but you miss a splendid view. We will also approach the grotto through the hill so bring a torch! For more information visit https://www.hawkstoneparkfollies.co.uk/
Please Note – book early as there is a maximum of 20 places for this unique event.
