A walk to Dumyat from the university campus

This is an obvious hill walk to do directly from the university campus and there is no need for any car transport. The walk climbs the prominent hill of Dumyat which rises behind the university.

Dumyat (pronounced ‘Dum-eye-at’), is a popular hill because of its accessibility and its views over the Forth Valley. Dumyat sits at the western end of The Ochil Hills above Stirling and is easily visible from the university. The name Dumyat comes from dun (or fort) of the Myaetae, the fort of a Pictish tribe that once dominated the area.  The remains of the hill fort are on Castle Hill a few 100m west of the summit of Dumyat.

8 Miles (14km) 400m assent, 400m decent

Surfaces; woods, open hillside and a short section on country road. There are sections with livestock where dogs must be kept on a lead. The country road is quiet but narrow. We may need to get off the road to let a car pass.

This is a hill walk and its a steady climb from the university at about 20metres to the summit at 418m.  The route has a couple of  steep climbs and descents but these pulls are never too long. The paths are rough in parts and it could be muddy in sections after rain. Good boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, some layers of warm clothing may be required, depending on the weather.
