Bridge of Allan Woods and River Allan linear walk to Dunblane
A linear walk between the university and the small picturesque town of Dunblane, with its 13th century cathedral and medieval houses. Its also the birthplace of tennis players Andy and Jamie Murray and the gold pillar box for Andy's 2012 Olympic gold medal is in the centre of the town.
The walk will use the frequent train service between Bridge of Allan and Dunblane to make a linear route. We will use woodland paths and some quiet lanes to Cocksburn Reservoir before descending to The Glen Road - an abandoned road through Kippenrait Glen and then onto The Darn Road to Dunblane which is an ancient trackway connecting Dunblane to Bridge of Allan following the East Bank of the River Allan.
About 8 miles and 200m of ascent, some short climbs and descents. Train services between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan are roughly every 30 minutes so there should be plenty of flexibility to look around Dunblane or visit a café before catching a train back to Bridge of Allan and walking back to the university. Train times available from the National Rail Website.
