A lovely walk loosely following the perimeter of Sutton Park. We start from Sutton Coldfield train station. There is plenty of free parking on residential streets within a ten minute walk of the station.
Sutton Park is a 2,400 acre National Nature Reserve located 6 miles north of Birmingham city centre. It’s one of the largest urban parks in Europe and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The park has open heathland, woodlands, seven lakes, wetlands, and marshes - each with its own rich variety of plants and wildlife, some rarely seen in the region. Cattle and wild ponies graze on the land.
Our route is 8.5 miles with a mix of paved and grassland paths. The elevation change is less than 100m so it is a moderate to easy walk. Some members may remember Chris T's excellent New Year's Day 2023 walk. I've picked a different route to avoid duplication, but with equally lovely views and variety.
There will be a two stops on the route, but there are no shops, so please bring your own refreshments.
