Today we finally complete our clockwise circuit of inner London, reaching our starting point at Woolwich that we set off from in October 2019.

Initially we will retrace our steps from Plaistow station to rejoin the Greenway, which we follow for about a mile before turning south towards the Royal Albert Dock and the Beckton District Park to finally reach the River Thames.

Part of this area now looks very modern, with high rise blocks of flats and the elegant student accommodation at the University of East London. However until about 30 years ago it was a busy commercial dockland. Points of interest include the University of East London Campus, Royal Albert and King George V Docks, Royal Victoria Gardens, a walk alongside the River Thames and the Woolwich Foot Tunnel.

After following the river's north bank westwards we reach the Woolwich foot tunnel. This tunnel is much less busy and longer than the more well-known foot tunnel at Greenwich. After emerging from its gloom, we will shortly reach the attractive Woolwich Arsenal development with its mixture of repurposed military and modern buildings. This is only a short walk from the old town centre at Woolwich and Woolwich Arsenal station.
