Wandle Trail - Waddon to Wandsworth
The Wandle Trail follows the route of the River Wandle from Croydon to the Thames at Wandsworth. It allows you to enjoy the heritage, flora and fauna of this typical chalk stream in the heart of some of south London’s most industrialised landscape. Today we will avoid most of the street walking involved, and reduce the length of the walk from its full 14 miles, by starting at Waddon rather than East Croydon.
After leaving Waddon station, we soon pass the nearby Waddon Ponds situated in a small park, which form one of the sources of the Wandle. The walk passes many places of historic interest, including Beddington Park, Carew Manor, Carshalton Ponds, the National Trust's Watermeads Nature reserve, Morden Hall Park, Merton Abbey Mills, and the former Ram Brewery in Wandsworth.
There are several opportunities to leave the walk early, including near Morden and Colliers Wood (close to Northern line services) and Earlsfield (frequent South Western trains to Clapham Junction and Waterloo).
