Aviemore Mountain Walking

I am cancelling this walk. In light of the guidance and the forthcoming possible imposition of compulsory travel bans from L3 areas, I do not think it is appropriate for people to be travelling from the central belt. Sorry for the short notice and I should have taken action earlier. I know not everyone is in L3 areas (and I don’t know where some of you are from) and its a good forecast and all that, but please don’t travel. Thanks for your understanding.

For our late autumn meet we will return to Aviemore by popular demand.  The planned hostel accommodation is not possible because of the restrictions on group gatherings indoors. Please make your own accommodation arrangements.

The area offers great walking in the high mountains of the Cairngorms.  The plan is to walk the Glen Feshie Munros of Sgorr Gaoith and/or Mullach Clach a'Bhlair (at the discretion of the leader).  Note as always, the planned route may have to be altered because of the weather.

People intending to take part in this event should read GOC's document Safety in the Hills.

This is a COVID secure event with an event-specific risk assessment as required for Organised Sports Exemption under Scottish Government rules and following the guidance of Sport Scotland and the Sport Governing Bodies (in this instance these are Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Ramblers).  The GOC Scotland COVID Officer is David Archer.

Participants should only use their own equipment, such as maps, compasses and walking poles, have their own personal first aid kit for the usual minor things (blisters etc), their own safety kit (survival/bothy bag etc) and not to share food or equipment with those outside of their household.

By signing onto this meet you are agreeing to the following participation statement:

  • I do not currently have symptoms of COVID-19 (new persistent dry cough, fever, loss of taste or smell)
  • I have not had a positive test for COVID-19 or onset of symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 10 days.  (Individuals who have completed their period of isolation (10 days) and have no remaining symptoms  may return to normal activities)
  • No member of my household has had symptoms of COVID-19 or has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • I have not been contacted by a contact tracer from the Test, Trace and Protect Programme and told to isolate in the last 14 days as a contact of someone with confirmed COVID-19.
  • I have not returned from a country outside of the UK in the last 14 days, other than those on the exempt list.

New:

A new system of local protection levels were introduced in Scotland on Monday 2nd November.  Check the protection level for your area and find out what you can and cannot do with regard to travel. Details of government guidance is here.
