This attractive circular walk from Godden Green takes you through some of the finest countryside and historic landscapes in the Kent Downs, linking Ightham Mote, Knole Park and the Greensand Way. The route combines quiet country lanes, woodland, open fields and ancient parkland, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy wildlife and far-reaching views.

One of the highlights is Ightham Mote, one of England’s oldest surviving medieval manor houses. The core of the house dates from the 1340s and it is surrounded by a remarkable moat, which encloses all four wings of the building.

From here, the walk joins sections of the Greensand Way, following the distinctive ridge through wooded countryside before reaching Knole Park. Covering around 1,000 acres, Knole is famous for its ancient trees, open parkland and large population of wild deer. The deer park was enclosed in 1456 by Thomas Bourchier, Archbishop of Canterbury, and fallow deer have roamed here for more than 500 years.

The return towards Godden Green passes through peaceful woodland and lanes, completing a wonderfully varied walk that combines medieval history, ancient landscapes, wildlife and classic Kent countryside.
