For one of our Thursday walk options of GOC goes to Sitges 2026, new for this year, we offer a moderate 10.9 mile linear coastal route from Torredambarra to Tarragona. The route mostly follows the GR92 long-distance trail and is well sign-posted. For more photos, taken December 2025, see Google Photos.

After arriving in Torredembarra at around 10.15, we will follow the promenade to the end of the beach and then past the marina to skirt around the headland of Els Munts, passing a lighthouse and a little cove to reach the charming resort town of Altafulla.

We follow the promenade until we pass by Altafulla railway station, about 2.5 miles into our route.  Anyone wishing to shorten their walk could stay on the train and get off here, and wait for us to catch up, or come on a later train to get off here.

We then walk along the beach for another mile until we reach Castell de Tamarit, now privately owned and operated as a wedding and events venue.

After passing behind the castle, we follow narrower forest paths for another mile to the beach at la Mora, where we will stop for lunch not quite half way through our route at around 1pm. There is a popular beach front cafe bar here where drinks and snacks may be bought, if it is open and not too busy.

From here we pass the Torre de la Mora and its neighbouring campsite, on a headland with fabulous sea views, before following narrow forest trails for a mile or so past a succession of secluded coves and beaches.  Finally we reach a long stretch of open beach, which requires a good mile and half of walking on the sand, past a couple more campsites.

After that we skirt another headland and pass the imposing, derelict children's sanitorium Preventori de la Savinosa, abandoned since it closed in 1966.

From here it is just another 2 miles, past one more beach and one more headland, until we reach the city of Tarragona.  We will end our route at the railway station by the coast, just past the Roman Amphitheatre, hopefully by about 4-4.30pm. From here, the return train to Sitges changing at San Vicenc de Calders will take about an hour.

For those that wish to stay a little longer and see something of Tarragona, it is well worth at least following the steep route of 10 minutes or so up to the city centre, enjoying fine views over the Roman Amphitheatre from above.  You will not have the time or energy to do justice to this World Heritage City, but some time may at least whet your appetite for another visit.

Bookings will open on 1 July - please book as early as possible and by Friday 16 October at the latest.  Capacity will be limited to 20, for a manageable group.
