Rambling Crewkerne, Somerset on Sunday, 26th April 2026

Crewkerne Walk, 26th April 2026.

Seven of us began our walk in the centre of the beautiful historic town of Crewkerne constructed from the local honey coloured Ham stone which gives the town its distinctive character. Our first point of interest was Townsend cemetery where we were able to glimpse the grave of the actress Linda Bellingham. We were soon walking out into the charming countryside surrounding the town where we were greeted by some stunning views.

We were very fortunate with the weather. The Somerset countryside was at its glorious springtime best. We stopped for coffee at St Martin’s Church, North Perrott where Andrew discovered the graves of two of his mother’s ancestors. He was very pleased about that! Our walk continued through more beautiful countryside which some members said was reminiscent of a Capability Brown park. We carried on walking through Misterton village under the impressive viaduct and stopped for lunch at the recreation ground.

Finally, we made our way to Michael’s flat via the railway line. Some members were very pleased to see a train pass.  The walk ended with Michael and Andrew serving everyone a delicious cream tea.
