Fan Y Big, Bannau Brycheiniog
This is a fairly strenuous, but very rewarding ramble amongst some of the highest summits in Southern Britain, about seven miles in length.
The walk starts with a steep climb for about one mile, but is then mostly level or downhill. The main Beacons ridge is reached after two miles and the route follows the ridge westwards over the peak of Fan Y Big (719 metres) with views of both Pen y Fan and Corn Du, before descending on a steep and winding path to the ancient Roman track that runs through the beautiful Taf Fechan valley, and then through a forest, back to the start.
Weather permitting, from the escarpment, there will be fine views in all directions, including of Pen y Fan, Corn Du, the Taf Fechan valley, and the two Neuadd reservoirs.
