On a beautifully sunny weather window in the middle of a rather stormy autumn, 9 walkers plus one dog met up by the River Stour opposite Christchurch Quay for a 7 mile circular stroll encompassing two ferry crossings. After a brief stop to see the exhibits at Hengistbury Head visitor centre, we walked to the summit of the Head to enjoy sweeping coastal views in all directions. Then descended to Mudeford passenger ferry, crossing the busy mouth of Christchurch Harbour.
After a lunch stop we returned across Stanpit Marsh, a good place to see wading birds, and a brief stop at another visitor centre. Onwards past the historic Christchurch Priory to our second (very short) ferry over the Stour to Wick. This saved us a lengthy walk via Tuckton Bridge, and a potential soaking, as the heavens opened the minute we returned to our cars.
Some of us rounded off the day at the leader's home on Bournemouth's West Cliff, to enjoy our customary November tea including home made soup and flapjacks.
