Abernethy Forest

A moderate 7 mile walk in the Abernethy Forest from Nethy Bridge, near Aviemore.

The walk visits part of Abernethy Forest, the largest area of natural pine forest in the UK, directly descended from the ancient Caledonian forest.

We'll follow a riverside path before a long section on a quiet tarmac road which does give fabulous views to the Cairngorm mountains. Old paths lead across the strath to the isolated house at Lyngarrie before the route leads us back through the magnificent pinewoods.

We'll be following the Walkhighlands route 'Abernethy Forest and Lyngarrie Circuit'.
