The Grey Mare's Tail and White Coombe
This is a mountain walk up the Corbett of White Coombe in the Scottish Borders, taking in the spectacular waterfall of The Grey Mare's Tail.
White Coombe rises to over 800m (2600ft) in the expanse of high hills and moorland between Moffat and Selkirk, and is one of the Corbetts (Scottish hills between 2500 and 3000ft) south of the central belt. About 12Km with c800m of ascent, this will take us 5 - 6 hours. This is a mountain walk so expect steep climbs and descents and some pathless boggy terrain in places.
You will need good walking boots, waterproof trousers and jacket plus pack some warm clothes as it can be chilly at 800m, even in July.
People intending to take part in this event should read GOC's document Safety in the Hills.
