Eleven members of Devon GOC met at Fingle Bridge for a woodland walk of six miles.
Although we were very lucky with the dry weather the heavy rain of the preceding night meant the River Teign was in spate. We followed the river for three miles before a tea break at Clifford Bridge.
We then gained 200 metres of height in a steep ascent up the west side of the Teign valley. We saw plenty of wood ants on the way and some members glimpsed a herd of deer crossing our path.
We had lunch at Wooston Castle, an Iron age hill fort, before we descended back into the Teign valley.
The Fingle Bridge Inn provided a superb riverside spot for refreshments. Spiced Apple Cake and clotted cream seemed to be the favourite.
A grey Wagtail nesting on the nearby roof topped off a memorable afternoon.
Many thanks to Alan for organising and leading the walk.
