A generous 5 miles  moderate walk with some hills in the west Berkshire countryside. Mainly on bridleways and footpaths with short distances on quiet narrow roads. This walk will reveal some of the beautiful countryside around Stanford Dingley through which runs the River Pang a small chalk stream river and a tributary of the River Thames. It runs for approximately  14 miles from its source in the village of East Ilsley to its confluence with the Thames in the village of Pangbourne. The river, and its water voles, is thought to have inspired author Kenneth Grahame’s character Ratty and his book The Wind in the Willows.

The river’s Perennial Head – below which it always flows, is at the Blue Pools just below Stanford Dingley, although the exact location varies depending on rainfall levels.
