This 9 mile circular walk covers the adjacent commons: Royal, Elstead, Ockley, Thursley and Rodborough. It is a fairly easy walk with a few small hills. The route is mainly
on sandy paths, paved tracks and board walks. Some of the walk is over open heathland so hats and sunscreen are recommended if the weather is fine!
The Thursley National Nature Reserve at 325 hectares is one of the largest remaining fragments of heathland in Surrey and contains Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The
reserve has extensive areas of open dry heathland, peat bogs, pine and deciduous woodlands. Discover, 20 species of dragonflies and damselflies who live around the open
ponds and ditches of the reserve as well as an array of birds which include Dartford warblers, stone chats, long-tailed tits, gold crests, red starts, white throats and
wheatears. Unusual plants for Surrey include the round leaved sundew, bog asphodel, sphagnum mosses, heathers and cotton grass.
