Wild Camping at Coiremor Bothy
Due to drop outs, the event has been cancelled. If there is sufficient interest, we'll reschedule this for another time (but there could be more midges...).
A wild camping trip to the remote hills of upper Strath Mulzie
This is a wild camping weekend based by a very remote bothy (Coiremor) by Loch a'Choire Mhor in Strath Mulzie. This is north and east of Ullapool in the far north of Scotland. https://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/bothies/northern-highlands/coiremor-choire-mhoir/
For more information on mountain bothies and the bothy code go to https://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/bothies/
This is a remote area of hills and moorland south of Oykle Bridge on the A837 Bonar Bridge to Ledmore Junction road. The mountain objectives will be the remote (but straightforward) munro of Seana Bhraigh and the remote Corbett of Carn Ban.
An example itinerary is to walk in on Sunday May 12th May and set up camp near to the Coiremor Bothy. If the evening weather is fine and there is time, we may choose to climb Seana Bhraigh, which is about a one and a half hour straightforward climb from the campsite.
Monday 13th May. - Climb the Corbett of Carn Ban - about 10km rough walking - 4 to 5 hours.
Tuesday 14th May - walk out to Oykel Bridge.
A backpacking tent and a sleeping bag will be essential. You will also need to carry all your own food for the weekend plus all your standard hill walking kit. We can use the bothy for shelter and cooking, and you may want to sleep here also, but the comfort is not guaranteed, there could be other people there who may not choose to go bed early.
People intending to take part in this event should read GOC's document Safety in the Hills.
Photos are by D. Archer and are of previous wild camping meets and Seana Bhraigh (done by bicycle in 2003).
