Ben Ledi
Ben Ledi
A straightforward mountain walk over this popular mountain from Bochastle near Callander.
Ben Ledi at 879 metres is the highest mountain in The Trossachs and is particularly well known through Walter Scott's poem Lady of the Lake. The mountain is easily seen from Stirling and on the approaches to Callander. It is a popular climb from Loch Lubnaig.
We will climb the hill from Bochastle car park, using forestry tracks to join the usual route from Loch Lubnaig, traverse the mountain to descent Stank Glen and we will return through the pleasant birch woodland above The Falls of Leny, where the Garbh Uisge (literally 'Rough Water' in Gaelic) crosses the Highland Boundary Fault, which separates the Highlands, defined here by tough grey schist, from the brown sediments of the Lowlands.
A mountain walk of about 10 miles (16km) c2700ft (830 m) of ascent (about 6 hours). Participants should come suitably equipped for mountain weather; we can do a low level alternative if the weather forecast is truly foul.
People intending to take part in this event should read GOC's document Safety on the Hills.
