Dorset Group 27Dec22: Kingston Lacy Woods

A dry mild day greeted our band of 13 plus dog as we assembled on Pamphill Green for our short twixmas stroll. Following the ancient byway of All Fools Lane we foraged wild mushrooms galore before continuing along the Stour Valley Way  to reach the Kingston Lacy Estate.

After a short exploration of the extensive estate kitchen garden with an easement break we entered the grounds of this famous NT house. The woodland trail circumventing the grounds led us through a quarry garden, a japanese garden and a willow tunnel before we paused at the adventure playground for our picnic.

Miles of attractive woodland followed with glimpses of rare cattle, pigs and the main house. We left the grounds at the Main Entrance Lodge for a short climb through a copse to explore pretty Pamphill Church at the walks end.
