West Kent - Yalding and Teston Country Park Circular Walk
Starting at Yalding, this walk predominantly follows the Medway River Walk north and east through Teston Country Park, and then on to Barming Bridge. The walk then turns south along quiet country lanes and footpaths picking up part of the Greensands Way and Medway River.
Yalding is a village situated 6 miles southwest of Maidstone at a point where the Rivers Teise and Beult join the River Medway. There are three bridges in the village; the Twyford Bridge (meaning twin ford, where there was originally a double crossing of the two rivers) is one of the finest medieval bridges in the southeast of England. Yalding was one of the principal shipment points on the River Medway for cannon, from villages of the Wealden iron industry.
Combining 32 acres of grazed meadow, river walks, a children's play area and of course the picturesque 15th century Teston Bridge, Teston Country Park makes the most of its beautiful natural setting on the banks of the Medway.
Bridge Meadow, the large grass area adjacent to the car park and playground, is perfect for picnics and ball games. Several events take place here throughout the year, including the famous Kite Festival.
