Dorset Group 22 Sep 22: Broadmayne to Bincombe Circuit

We set off from the village of Broadmayne 4 miles east of Dorchester, heading south on Osmington Drove reaching the South West Coast Path high up on the ridgeway. After 45 minutes, a short stop at the summit of Spring Bottom afforded spectacular views of Weymouth Bay and Portland, part of the Jurassic Coast. Then westwards for an hour, including fine coastal views, passing displays of parasol mushrooms and a 200 metre bank of bee colonies, arrived at the charming hamlet of Bincombe.

There we enjoyed our picnic lunch at the small beautiful 12th Century Holy Trinity Church and it's grounds. After lunch, off again for two hours, first northwards on a very steep hill out of the hamlet towards Came Down Gold Course and Came Woods and then headed eastwards with fine views inland, passing Half Moon copse, eventually descending once again to our starting point. A 7.5 mile hike in fine weather and beautiful scenery was concluded with a lovely cream tea at our leader Andrew's house in Broadmayne.
