Auchnafree Hill from Sma' Glen
Auchnafree Hill from Sma'Glen
Auchnafree Hill is a grassy hill that rises above Crief. We have climbed this hill a couple of times in recent years, but always from the Loch Turret dam. The route we'll take is from The Courier newspaper and climbs the hill via Sma' Glen which is described thus 'Journeying through the beautiful Sma’ Glen is an uplifting experience. The pass is often labelled as Glen Coe in miniature, where rough slopes and craggy faces squeeze in from either side and the horizon is a constant procession of V-shapes.'
The route is straightforward, but there are some pathless sections which will be boggy in places (even in the driest conditions). This is a long walk of 14 mile (22.5km) circuit with c800 metres of climbing, about 7 hours, but there are options to cut the walk short at numerous points and we will do a low level walk up the glen if the weather is unsuitable for going up high.
